Continue a ler.

UNICEF | «Annual Report 2018 / For every child, every right »

«Highlights
In words, images, facts and figures, this report details the results that UNICEF achieved in 2018, together with its generous partners and supporters, a dedicated global workforce and children and young people themselves. It also profiles UNICEF’s 2018 advocacy campaigns focused on improving child survival and health, expanding early childhood development programmes, ending violence against children and supporting young migrants and refugees. And it highlights the ways in which UNICEF has lived its core values – care, respect, integrity, accountability and trust – by initiating positive changes in its organizational culture.
As a record of the first year of the UNICEF Strategic Plan, 2018–2021, the report outlines efforts to protect the rights of every child, to open up new opportunities for children and young people, to become increasingly effective and efficient, and to strengthen UNICEF’s partnerships and financial stewardship. Among many other achievements in 2018, the report notes that UNICEF supported birth in health facilities for 27 million babies, three doses of the Pentavalent vaccine for an estimated 65.5 million children, education for 12 million children and treatment for 4 million children with severe acute malnutrition. At the same time, the organization responded to 285 humanitarian emergencies in 90 countries.
UNICEF Annual Report 2018 examines the progress made despite humanitarian challenges – as well as the opportunities ahead – as the international community marks the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 2019». Deste endereço.

«EVERY CHILD ALIVE | The urgent need to end newborn deaths»

«Imagine for a moment that you are about to give birth. You are at home, accompanied only by a few members of your family. You are in pain, but you have no access to a doctor, nurse or midwife. You know there is a real risk that both you and the baby you have been waiting to meet may not survive the birth. Even if you and the baby survive, you know that the coming days and weeks will be filled with danger.
Imagine now that you are a midwife, preparing to deliver a premature baby. The health centre where you work has no running water, no electricity and few supplies. You are standing in the dark, your mobile phone clenched between your teeth, its dim glow the only light available to guide you. The mother before you is 16 years old. She is entering the active phase of labour. You are her only source of medical help and hope.
These scenarios illustrate the harsh reality faced by millions of mothers, babies and health workers around the world. It is a reality that we can and must change to keep
EVERY CHILD ALIVE»

RELATÓRIO UNICEF |«A FAMILIAR FACE/ Violence in the lives of children and adolescents»

«SUMMARY
All children have the right to be protected from violence inflicted on them by anyone in their lives – whether parents, teachers, friends, romantic partners or strangers. And all forms of violence experienced by children, regardless of the nature or severity of the act, are harmful. Beyond the unnecessary hurt and pain it causes, violence undermines children’s sense of self-worth and hinders their development.
Yet violence against children is often rationalized as necessary or inevitable. It may be tacitly accepted due to the familiarity of perpetrators, or minimized as inconsequential. The memory or reporting of violence may be buried due to shame or fear of reprisal. Impunity of perpetrators and prolonged exposure may leave victims believing violence is normal. In such ways, violence is masked, making it difficult to prevent and end.
A Familiar Face: Violence in the lives of children and adolescents uses the most current data to shed light on four specific forms of violence: violent discipline and exposure to domestic abuse during early childhood; violence at school; violent deaths among adolescents; and sexual violence in childhood and adolescence.
The statistics reveal that children experience violence across all stages of childhood, in diverse settings, and often at the hands of the trusted individuals with whom they interact on a daily basis.
Ensuring that violence in all its forms is documented through solid data is a first step towards its elimination».

RELATÓRIO | «A child is a child»

«Millions of children are on the move across international borders – fleeing violence and conflict, disaster or poverty, in pursuit of a better life.
The global number of refugee and migrant children moving alone has reached a record high. At least 300,000 unaccompanied and separated children were recorded in some 80 countries in 2015–2016, up from 66,000 in 2010–2011.
Hundreds of thousands move on their own. When they can’t find opportunities to move legally, children resort to dangerous routes and engage smugglers to help them cross borders.
Serious gaps in the laws, policies and services meant to protect children on the move leave refugee and migrant children bereft of protection and care.
Deprived, unprotected and often alone, children on the move can become easy prey for traffickers and others who abuse and exploit them.
The current system is failing refugee and migrant children. States have a responsibility to uphold their rights and protect all children within their borders, without exception.
A child is a child. It is now time to act». Leia mais.
